Pilots vs Passengers: The Mindset That Predicts AI Success
In every organization adopting AI, there are two types of people: pilots and passengers. Pilots actively experiment, learn the tools, push boundaries, and shape how AI gets used. Passengers wait to be told what to do, resist change, and view AI as a threat rather than an opportunity.
The ratio of pilots to passengers in your organization is the single best predictor of AI adoption success. You do not need everyone to be a pilot — but you need enough of them in the right positions to create momentum.
Building a pilot culture requires three things: permission to experiment, tools to experiment with, and recognition for experiments that produce results.
